mediapipe extracts 21 hand landmarks per frame; the pipeline normalizes them against the wrist and palm so the classifier reads pose, not position. a hand near the lens and a hand across the room resolve to the same gesture.

the whole loop runs on a laptop webcam at interactive speed — capture, landmark, classify, draw — with no cloud call in the path. latency is the feature; a translation that lags is a translation nobody uses.
